Emma Phillips’ Surgery Recovery Fund
Donation protected
This fundraiser is to help support Emma through her recovery after hip replacement surgery.
Emma was born with hip dysplasia that was diagnosed late, which led her to receiving bilateral hip surgery at the age of 2. This allowed her to live a normal childhood, but it was always known that she would need additional corrective surgeries. The doctors were hopeful that she would be able to make it into her 40’s before she needed another procedure but, after progressing pain over the past few years, she has found out that she is in need of a complicated total hip replacement on her left side. The surgery will take place later this summer.
Her doctor estimates that after surgery she will be unable to work for approximately 3 months. The reason her surgery is expected to take a much longer recovery than a standard hip replacement is due to the physical complications and abnormalities of her femur and pelvis bones that she was born with.
This is the second step in Emma’s lifelong hip journey, in which she will most likely need several more surgeries as her replacement gets worn out and needs to be replaced. She is grateful to receive this surgery and is feeling positive that this will be what she needs in order to start enjoying her 20’s and living life to the fullest, pain free.
With her current job, she does not qualify for short term disability or unemployment insurance. She is doing what she can now to save up money, but unfortunately her pain keeps her from being able to get around well and take on additional projects aside from her day job. Raising this money would greatly allow her to focus on healing and give her peace of mind about being able to afford her rent and bills.
Emma is now 24, and a recent college graduate. She lives with her partner and beloved pets, and currently works as a nanny. She is very passionate about helping animals and shelters, and what she is looking forward to most after her recovery is volunteering at her local humane society, as well as being able to go on daily walks with her partner.
Emma is very thankful for all of her supportive friends and family, and appreciates all of the kind words and love that she has received thus far.
