Emma Wardrop Go Fund Me

Early on Monday October 14th our dear friend/sister/wife took a severe fall off of her bicycle in Ucluelet, BC. It was dark and not knowing what was ahead, she rode off a big drop and took all impact to her face and upper body, the shock went down her spine. She was rushed to the closest hospital in Tofino with Andi right behind her, and was later airlifted to the Intensive Care Unit at Vancouver General Hospital where Shane was waiting for her arrival. She fractured her skull and jaw, both in several places and took major trauma to her chest and cervical vertebrae. Following an MRI, she went in for an operation to fuse multiple vertebrae together and to alleviate pressure from her spinal cord. The operation went well, but the pressure on her spinal cord impedes sensation from the chest down. She has movement in her hands and arms and we are hopeful and positive that the rest will come back in time and rehabilitation. Though she had serious stress to her skull her brain is fully functioning. This was the first operation of what will be a marathon of healing process which we are certain Emma will endure.
Her injuries are severe and recovery will be a long road ahead. She will be at VGH for at least one month undergoing more surgeries and rehabilitation.
This fund is to help support Emma and her family with the many expenses that will incur during her recovery.
Her husband Shane, and her family are by her side; support for travel and accommodations while she is in Vancouver would be extremely helpful at this time. Emma is a Waldorf school teacher and we are unsure of when she will be able to return to her passion in this work and to her students.
We hope with your help we can alleviate some of the stress that Emma and her family are dealing with. As Emma is healing we are happy to update friends and family on her recovery, to keep everyone at ease.
A reminder that although financial support would be super helpful, we all know how important positive thoughts and prayers are in this time.
The main focus right now is Emma’s rest and recovery - This will be a slow and steady process, and we are keeping visitors to Emma at the ICU to the immediate family.
Should you have any specific questions towards any of the above don’t hesitate to contact Julie Smith (1-778- [phone redacted]), Sara Laking (1-604-902-2326), or Névé Petersen (1-604-698-8286). Any cards or well wishes can be sent through the contacts above - the nurses and the hospital would ask that you hold back from sending anything to the ICU at this time.
