Emmalie’s Journey: Epilepsy and Brain Surgery
Donation protected
UPDATE:
Emma has successfully made it through surgery, 10/25/23 at Wake Forest Atrium. The surgery went fantastic, and we’re expecting an amazing recovery!
Hello,
My name is Luke Mansell, and I'm reaching out on behalf of one of my closest friends, Emmalie Mann, a courageous 20-year-old young woman facing an incredibly challenging battle against a brain tumor and epilepsy. Emmalie's journey started after I witnessed her first seizure on January 2nd, 2021. Emmalie urgently needs our support as she prepares for a life-changing brain surgery, called a “left temporal brain tumor laser ablation,” on October 25th, 2023, at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist.
For almost 3 years, Emmalie has been struggling with epilepsy and the challenges that come with it. Emmalie faces it with unmatched courage and resilience while displaying a smile that lights up a room.. Emmalie has experienced over 200 seizures since January 2nd, 2021. The seizures are sporadic, and days could go without one. Rougher days included 5+ seizures in a span of 24 hours. In Early 2022, she received the devastating diagnosis of a brain tumor against her left front temporal lobe that was causing her complex partial seizures – further complicating her health journey. Emmalie has experienced many hardships during her health battle, including a car accident in 2022 where she had a seizure behind the wheel, moving residences and leaving independence and living on her own to receive closer support from her father, and the inability to work since April 1st, 2023. Emmalie’s seizures were becoming more intense and getting in the way of her ability to serve customers and remain on a constant schedule. The upcoming surgery to remove her tumor is her best chance for a brighter, healthier future with a strong success rate.
The financial burden of medical bills that will not be fully covered by Insurance, pre-and post-operative care, travel expenses, and ongoing treatments are overwhelming for Emmalie and her family. Despite her emotional and physical challenges, Emmalie remains positive and hopeful. We are reaching out to our community, friends, and kind-hearted individuals willing to stand beside her in this fight or have offered help previously and are still looking for a way to reach out.
How Funds Will Be Used:
- Medical Expenses: Covering the brain surgery costs that will not be covered by Insurance. Of course, with all surgeries, not 100% of bills are covered. Funds will be allocated to post-operative care, consultations, imaging, future and current medications, and potential follow-up treatments with other specialists.
- Rehabilitation and Therapy: Assisting with the expenses for rehabilitation and therapy sessions to aid in Emmalie's recovery and quality of life post-surgery. We are unsure if Emmalie will have to reach out to a physical therapist post-surgery, but it is a strong possibility.
- Support: Supporting Emmalie with the transition of her life back as it was before her diagnosis. After ongoing medical appointments, treatments, and any additional needs that may arise during her healing process. Since diagnosis, Emmalie has had to travel back and forth between Mission, Advent Health, and Wake Forest Atrium countless times. Funds will also be allocated for transportation expenses in the future for follow up appointments.
We understand that times are tough for many, and any contribution, big or small, will make a meaningful difference to avoid as much medical debt as possible and assist her in the ways needed. Your donation will make a difference in Emmalie’s post-operative life and recovery. Emmalie's journey is one of strength, courage, and hope. Please join us in supporting Emmalie as she faces this significant battle. Together, we can ease the financial burden and allow her to focus on healing and reclaiming her life and look towards a brighter future.
Your thoughts, prayers, and emotional/financial support mean the world to Emmalie and her family and friends. Please share this campaign with your networks, and let's rally together to make a difference in Emmalie's life and help her face the future with hope, strength, and determination.
Thank you for your kindness and generosity.
Warm regards,
Luke Mansell
