Hello! We are a team of volunteers currently traveling, exploring the world and doing our best to give back for all the blessings that we have received during our life's. This year we volunteered at Emmanuel's Soup Kitchen located in a neighborhood called Santo Domingo on the outskirts of Medellin, Colombia. We immediately fell in love with the children, the local volunteers, the sense of community and positivity in an impoverished neighborhood, and the overall mission of providing kids with the necessities(not only food but LOTS of LOVE and AFFECTION) that every child deserves to have a fighting chance in this world.

First, some background on the soup kitchen. Two years ago a local Santo Domingan named Sneider was walking home from work and noticed an 11-year old kid named Juan Daniel. Juan Daniel was eating a small lunch of only rice, and shared with Sneider that he did not have more food to eat. Sneider was moved to take Juan Daniel under his wing, and help others like him. He spoke with his friends and family and gathered food donations. Sneider and his sisters began to cook out of their homes, inviting kids in need from around the neighborhood to eat. Since he spoke some English, he added English lessons on weekends. The soup kitchen slowly grew, requiring more resources as it served more children in need.

Thanks to Sneider and his efforts, the soup kitchen currently feeds lunch to roughly 100 kids once a day from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm Monday through Friday. Every Saturday from 10:00 am to 2:00pm kids can join English lessons followed by recreational sports . There are five mothers (whose kids also eat for free) from the community who volunteer to cook the meals each day for all of the kids. The soup kitchen helps children from 8 months old to 16 years old.

WHY SUPPORT THESE KIDS AND COMMUNITY? Santo Domingo is one of the poorest , most crime-ridden, and least educated neighborhoods in Medellin and many of these kids do not have both parents in their life. They are at greater risk of going down "the wrong path" since they are surrounded by them. Despite this they are HAPPY, GRATEFUL FOR EVERYTHING THEY HAVE, and their SMILES and ENTHUSIASM to learn and experience the things most people take for granted can Illuminate any human's heart. At the soup kitchen they receive the food their families cannot provide them with and importantly, they receive love and affirmation that they matter, which will shape them to be good human beings that society needs. By contributing YOU would be making an IMMEDIATE IMPACT. Any size contribution will have an IMPACT and would be greatly appreciated!

WHERE DO THESE FUNDS GO? The funds will go directly to services that benefit the kids of the soup kitchen that is currently active in feeding, nourishing, and loving the kids of Santo Domingo! The main goal is to fund the monthly operating expenses for the program for up to a year. The monthly operating costs are a little over $1,200 dollars a month and include the costs of food, rent for the soup kitchen itself, utility costs, and some repairs to the existing soup kitchen (several leaks in the roof, damaged exterior windows, interior minor renovation to create a better learning environment). The funds will be enough to provide 2,400 kids meals a month for an ENTIRE YEAR and provide much needed repairs to the soup kitchen! Anyone interested in donating on a monthly basis please feel free to contact us directly!

Last BUT NOT LEAST: We would like to say that we ABSOLUTELY love these kids. They personally remind us of our families when we were growing up with little resources and thanks to amazing people who supported our families and us along the way,  we are now in a position to help others. We personally see so much potential in each one of these kids and anything that you can do to help support this program is very much appreciated! Thank you for your time and may god bless you so you may bless others!
