Emma’s Paradressage Voyage!
Hello…
I’m Emma and I compete in National and International Para dressage with my own horse Lad and more recently I have been lucky to ride Sofie Butchart’s Royalty. I have a rare genetic congenital syndrome called Holt Oram Syndrome. This means that my arms are very short and abnormally formed, I have no shoulder joints and my nerve pathways to my whole body are effected. I’m often in lots of nerve pain. I also have a heart condition and has a hole repaired when I was only 3 years old.
In two competitions I managed to qualify Royalty for the National Championships and Keysoe CPEDI 3*. We won the National Championships at Grade III Gold Level. When we competed at Keysoe 3* we came a very close second and won the freestyle to music on the third day. Or successes here meant that we were invited to compete in Deauville and Waragem. Sadly due to the expense I sadly had to decline my place. This competition would have cost me at least £6000 each.
I am completely self funded so need help to achieve my goal of competing abroad! These abroad competitions are expensive and to get me
out there would cost in the region of £6000!!! I’m so touched at those who have helped already and that funding has enabled me to pay for the Nationals and Keysoe International.
Our lorry we lovingly call Wilma is 29 years old and needs work done so we need to raise the funds to get her fixed so we can carry on competing.
I have previously competed at CPEDI3* level and was on the World Class Para dressage Squad. Unfortunately due to loss of horse power and my own illnesses I lost my position on the squad. Ten years ago I moved 180 miles away from my family to pursue my dreams. I’ve worked very hard towards improving my riding whilst being based at Angela Weiss’ yard. I’ve had many physical and mental illnesses to over come in the past ten years. However my drive to compete in the sport I love is the thing that has kept me going. The horses have really helped me during very tough times.
I am completely self funded and train around working 4 days a week. Laddie is now based at Sofie Butchart’s yard with Royalty. Sofie rides both horses whilst I’m at work and I train around working. Training and competition costs are not cheap so any help would be appreciated. Any donation would mean the world to me and my team.
My ultimate aim is to reach the highest accolade as a disabled athlete…..The Paralympic Games.
