Emmitt's Medical Care

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Carolyn McCaskill and I am asking for your prayers and financial support to assist with the long-term medical care for my dear brother in-law, Emmett Griffin Jr.
Emmett suffered a massive hemorrhaging stroke on December 17, 2017. He was rushed to have life-saving emergency brain surgery on December 18, 2017 to relieve pressure on his brain.  Because the stroke affected his ability to swallow, he required tracheotomy surgery to prevent him from aspirating into his lungs. Since that time, he has been hospitalized with varying complications from the stroke, i.e., numerous blood clots, pneumonia, infections, high fever, etc.
Emmett has been hospitalized off and on for the last 5 months. He had several attempts to rehabilitation but was over come with infections of various kinds. Emmett recently developed a blood infection and is now back in the hospital as of May 28, 2018.  It has been a constant emotional roller coaster ride, to say the least.
Kaiser Permanente, Emmett’s heath insurer, recently informed my sister that they will no longer pay for the rehabilitative care and that it was time to consider alternative long-term care at a nursing home.  Because Emmett’s condition is considered sub-acute, he requires a facility that can provide him with specialized care required to maintain the Tracheostomy.  This requirement limits the choices of facilities that will accept him.  Thus far, the rehabilitative care that he has received has been a detriment to his recovery progress; therefore my sister is considering in-home care.   Kaiser Permanente will provide some assistance; however, that is limited to 2-3 days a week. Emmett needs around-the-clock, 24-hour care.  My sister loves her husband dearly and would much rather care for her husband in the convenience of their home.   We all know that no one will care for your loved one the way you will.
Emmett was a very outgoing and loving person who loved people; especially the students he worked with while serving as the Director of Admissions at Howard University and Georgetown Public Policy Institute.  He has a long recovery ahead of him, but he is resilient and a fighter. He is a strong man and will find the power within to fight his way through this.
Again, I thank everyone who has reached out by visiting to support Angela as well as those that keep her lifted in thought and prayer.  Please continue to pray for my sister and our family, and for all families struggling with medical expenses.  Many of you have asked how they can help.  To assist with his care, we are setting up a “Go-Fund Me” account.  Any financial assistance you can provide is greatly appreciated. We understand that money can be tight, so please know that even any amount is helpful.
My family is a firm believer that Emmett will recover through God’s healing grace.  He will live to share his testimony and tell of the miraculous power of God almighty!  Thank you for your prayers and donations for this worthy cause.
