Hi Everyone,
My 25-year-old daughter, Emilia, has been very sick for the past 5 years. She has seen many different specialty medical physicians over the years with very few answers. A year ago she had to resign from her job as a behavioral therapist for children with autism, which she did for 3.5 years. She really enjoyed her job and loved her clients so it was tough on her to quit. Emilia has also had to put her music career on hold as well as many other things she used to enjoy. She is no longer able to exercise or do fun things with friends due to constant pain and exhaustion. After many doctor visits and thousands of dollars she finally got a diagnosis of chronic Lyme disease and multiple co-infections. A few years back she had a bull’s-eye rash (which we now know is characteristic of a tick bite). Fortunately she had kept a picture of it. Her doctor told her that it was ringworm and he treated her for that. Had she been diagnosed for Lyme and treated at the onset she would likely not be sick today.
My daughter has always been a vibrant and driven individual with the passion to help others. She was always involved with community service projects and even received a full ride to ASU where she got her Bachelor’s degree in social work. She has also always been very creative and passionate about the fine arts. She has sung, danced, played instruments and been in theatre for much of her life. Performing has always been a huge part of her life and is what feeds her soul and brings her to life. I miss my bright-eyed, happy and full of life child that this devastating disease has taken. Emilia is going to do big things in this world, she just needs to be given the chance. I hope you will help give her a shot at that.
We do not have nearly enough money to pay for the lab work or treatment she desperately needs and insurance will not pay a penny so everything is all out of pocket. This disease is very serious and if left untreated can be life threatening so it is important that she gets the treatment she needs ASAP. Emilia is already severely affected by this disease as she has a multitude of symptoms. Because she was not diagnosed and treated properly when she was initially bitten she now has over 40 different symptoms that have affected her neurological, musculoskeletal and endocrine systems just to name a few. She is a proud young woman and was very hesitant about me creating this account for her but at this point we have run out of options.
