Empower African Girls with Science & Engineering

I am an educator and I love teaching and sharing my knowledge. I have worked for over 30 years in international and multicultural environment, from Africa, Eastern and Western Europe and in China. With this extensive travel and experience I have understood that the poor situation in developing countries is not really due to the so-called “poverty”, but it is fundamentally due to the lack of proper education. The developing countries are actually rich in human and natural resources. People in these countries are highly talented and resourceful, if one try understand how they survive on the minimum they have. If the population is well educated, people at various societal levels could search and apply their knowledge and skills to solve basic problems themselves without leaving the problems escalate to worst. So, with a better or at least fundamental education these countries could become self-sufficient.
The question is “Do we want them to be self-sufficient? or do we want to keep working hard and feeding them? Or having them invading Europe and where we do not have adequate solution in stopping emigration?
I think, it is beneficial to advanced countries to help build good educational infrastructures in developing countries that will help keep the emigrating youth in their homelands, for they will be able to apply their knowledge there, create jobs and be successful without leaving.
Africa calls for foreign investors, yet there are no qualified and skilled specialists on the ground to do the required jobs. Consequently, some investors pull back and some come with their specialists. This does not solve the problem, nor help the development of the continent. For example, in rural environment a simple understanding of filtering or even boiling river water before consumption would make a difference in waterborne diseases.
Therefore, education comes as a fundamental need, and to educate a nation, it is imperative to educate the mother and future mother, i.e. the young girls so that they will share and spread and educate future generation.
As a STEM ambassador, I take the initiative to introduce basic principles of Sciences and Engineering into the most deprived rural schools girls and boys. However, my emphasis will be on attracting African school-girls into engineering as they are the most intimidated. In doing so I am certain to make a gradual change by running regularly this event that I call “Sciences and Engineering Days to Empower future Geniuses of Africa”. I will donate my time, some of my saving to this practice so that to run this event twice a year during the last week of each academic semester in various villages across Africa.
Each of us is able and capable of bringing a change into someone’s life, be it a friend, a relative, or a stranger. Therefore, I call upon each of us for we all have good hearts, good feelings and compassion hidden deep in our souls, so please let us step out from our comfort zone and donate either in money or in time to help build a better world for all humankind. You could join me if you would like to visit and discover how these children live, how their classrooms look like, and what their dreams are.
Therefore, open your heart, and stretch your hand to help a stranger, that is to help a child to learn to read and to realise his dream.
Please donate and donate to make a change, not a temporary change, but a permanent change through education.
