Empower Ghanaian Kids Through Skateboarding and Art
Donation protected
Welcome to our GoFundMe campaign! We are a skate and music collective that is dedicated to nurturing skateboarding culture and providing opportunities through skateboarding to positively impact the lives of Ghanaian youth. We believe that every child deserves the opportunity to explore their creativity and build confidence through sports. That's why we're combining two – skateboarding and art – to create a unique learning experience for kids, especially girls, in the Ashanti Region.
In Ghana, access to recreational activities and creative outlets for children is generally limited, and the country is currently going through its worst economic crisis in a generation. 2022 marked the hight of a severe macroeconomic crisis, with the inflation rate hitting a record high of 54%. Many schools lack the resources to offer extracurricular programs that promote physical fitness and artistic expression. We want to change that by bringing skateboarding and art workshops directly to high schools in the Ashanti region, thereby teaching over 1000 kids how skating can contribute to their physical, mental, and social well-being. By introducing kids to skateboarding and art, we're not just teaching them new skills – we're empowering them to believe in themselves and their abilities. But we need your help to make it happen.
Starting in August 2024, we will launch our mobile skatepark Skatematics, a free mentoring and teaching program aimed at exploring the divide between the cultures of skateboarding and academia in junior high schools and creating a more positive relationship by illuminating the unique benefits of skateboarding and its applicability to youth development. At least one junior high school will be visited per month till the end of the year, 2024. Each session will include skateboarding lessons led by experienced instructors, followed by art workshops where kids can explore their creativity and express themselves freely. Our goal is to create a safe and supportive environment where every child feels valued and encouraged to try new things.
