Empower Girls in Uganda Through Kayaking on the Nile
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Chris, and I am raising funds for the Kayak the Nile Canoe Club. The Canoe Club was established in 2023, as a non-profit program sponsored by Kayak the Nile, offering kayak and stand-up paddleboard coaching to local girls. Its members currently, primarily consist of the daughters of Kayak the Nile and Nile River Explorers staff, along with their friends.
Our mission is to provide them with memorable experiences, valuable knowledge, and the skills necessary for potential future employment in the sport, promoting diversity within the water sports industry in Uganda.
The club meets weekly on Sunday afternoons during the school term at the Kayak the Nile office. After gearing up, members head out onto the calm waters of the Nile River, guided by volunteer coaches. These coaches include fathers of the girls, along with Kayak the Nile and Nile River Explorers staff.
The club has also been fortunate to receive support from international kayakers passing through and offering their time and knowledge, for which they are deeply grateful.
During school holidays, the club also meets on Thursday afternoons, maintaining the same enthusiasm as the Sunday sessions. It’s inspiring to see the girls fully embrace the sport.
As the girls’ skills have grown, the club now visits the rapids once a month to further challenge and refine their abilities.
