Empower Maria's College Journey with a MacBook
Donation protected
Greetings everyone!
I’ve initiated this fundraising to assist my daughter, Maria, in buying a computer for her college years. Maria has used the school’s Chromebook through high school and must return it in the next couple weeks. Maria has not asked me to buy her a computer, even though she knows she will need one. Maria is not the one to ask for things, never was, one of the many reasons why she deserves this gift. My plan is to purchase her a MacBook Air, which should provide her with the necessary tools to complete college work. Please take a moment to read her story below.
Maria is the oldest child of five. She is a great big sister and a wonderful daughter. She is a writer, an artist, and a piano player. She has always been an inspiration to her siblings when it comes to academic achievements. When Maria was in second grade, she told me she would go to Yale University. I am not sure where she heard of Yale at that point in time, but she was confident about what she wanted. Year after year Maria only proved to be on the right track to achieve such high goals.
During Elementary and Middle school, she was always on the honor roll. High school was no different. She is graduating with 15 AP classes and a weighted GPA of 4.1. She is a member of The National Honor Society, National English Society, and National Spanish Society. Maria has received many academic awards during the last four years To name a few: from the College Board she received the National Hispanic Recognition Program Scholar, from Columbus High School she received the AP Scholar with Honor, from the White House she received the President’s Volunteer Service Award. She was a semi-finalist in the GA Governor’s Honors Program and was selected to present her own original research on consciousness at the University of Arizona.
Despite being such a high achiever Maria is only eighteen years old and sadly has already faced some hardships. Our family went through a traumatic divorce experience, which caused a great financial burden that we are still recovering from. The emotional turmoil during this challenging time also shook Maria in more ways than I would ever want to see my child go through. Instead of letting these difficulties get her off track, Maria decided to use them as motivation to apply herself even more. She got a job, learned how to drive, and has been nothing but responsible and independent throughout high school.
Maria was accepted to several competitive colleges and universities to include Kings College in London, Sussex University in London, New York University, George Mason University, University of Georgia, The Catholic University of America, and Marymount Manhattan College. I couldn’t be prouder of my daughter’s strength, intelligence, and grit.
This new computer will be a blessing to Maria’s life as I am sure she will take demanding classes in college and will spend most of her time writing and researching. Your support and help are very much appreciated.
