Empower Mary’s Fight Against Cancer

Hi everyone, my name is Andrea Hale and I’m starting this GoFundMe for my sister-in-law, Mary McArthur. I’ve known Mary for 6 years and was lucky enough to be a bridesmaid when she married my brother, Bryan, in November 2022.

In October 2023, Bryan took Mary to the emergency room because she was short of breath. That visit led to a lengthy inpatient hospital stay in their home state of New York, culminating in a diagnosis of stage 4 endometrioid cancer. Mary is now facing the fight of her life with Bryan by her side as her caretaker, cheerleader and advocate. As of now, Mary will be undergoing three cycles of chemotherapy followed by surgery. Her first cycle was on December 1. The next two are scheduled for December 21 and January 11. Surgery will include a total hysterectomy and removal of multiple tumors throughout her abdomen. To quote her surgeon, the purpose of this surgery is to ‘get it all out’. Surgery is scheduled for Valentine’s Day 2024. Thankfully, Mary is able to be treated by world-renowned physicians in the Memorial Sloan Kettering medical system. She and Bryan are confident that chemotherapy will shrink the tumors throughout her abdomen and that surgery will be successful.

Since Mary is unable to work and Bryan is taking time away from work as needed, I’m asking for help on their behalf. As you can imagine, this is an unfathomable challenge to face at any stage of life, especially as newlyweds. Mary is 31 and has always been incredibly active in her career and her community. This adjustment has been abrupt and devastating, but what has impressed me the most is seeing her desire to fight and push forward each day. Her positive outlook and determination to live a long life is getting her through each and every moment. My hope is that the community that loves Mary and Bryan will come together to help them through this challenge so that they can focus on this battle.
