Support Penny Gamble-Williams: A Beacon of Light and Leadership
Penny Gamble-Williams, affectionately known as Talking Feather, is an esteemed enrolled member of the Chappaquiddick Tribe of the Wampanoag Nation of Massachusetts. She stands as a beacon of resilience, cultural preservation, and leadership.
Now, she needs our help. Unfortunately, Penny is battling a major health diagnosis that has and will continue to hospitalize her for at least six (6) weeks, followed by an anticipated extended period of home rehabilitation and recovery. Penny's road to recovery is hopeful. However, the current physical limitations caused by her medical condition have exacerbated financial demands and necessitated accommodations she will require. This has resulted in daunting medical expenses and personal financial strain. Our goal is to raise $80,000. This will allow Penny to focus on her healing journey and continue her invaluable work and art creativity. Every contribution, no matter the size, is vital support for Penny as she faces her current health obstacles.
This is a call to support Penny, a dedicated leader, artist, and activist who has illuminated paths of spirituality, social justice, and transformation. As Chairperson and Spiritual Leader of the Chappaquiddick Wampanoag since 2002, Penny has championed cultural preservation, Indigenous land rights, religious freedom, environmental justice, and Afro-Indigenous visibility. With over fifty years of work, including co-hosting Talking Feather Radio, co-curating the Indivisible exhibit at the National Museum of the American Indian, and co-founding The Painted Gourd storytelling collective, Penny’s positive contributions to community are undeniable. Her art is a vibrant reflection of her Indigenous roots and lifelong dedication to preserving the traditions and stories of her people. Your generosity will provide essential financial relief. Moreover, it is an opportunity to tell Penny how greatly she is cherished.
