Empower San Antonio with Gastronomy's Courses

Donation protected

Cooking is a life skill. A life skill that has become less important in our modern age. More and more US families eat their meals without the aid of home cooking than ever before. This problem displays itself far beyond the waistlines and overall health of our community. It is a connection to our past that is lost.

At Gastronomy we focus on the love and the lure of cooking. We introduce the fun aspects of providing a meal for you and your loved ones in a manner that not only feeds, it nourishes. In our 10+ years in business, we have touched countless lives working alongside our clients through our culinary courses, hands-on activations, and school demos. Each and every one is designed to fortify the importance of cooking good food. Food that nourishes.

We are proud to have come to this point. The point where we are required to expand and move to the next phase of this dream. This is where you come in. Not just as a donator to the cause, but a benefactor to a lifelong dream.

The Mission
Gastronomy is starting a culinary school. One that focuses less on vocation and creating chefs, but is rather firm in its mission of teaching cooking as a life skill. This next step could not come at a better time for us as well as our community.

In the past year, we have been working to acquire a location on the northwest side of San Antonio. This area, much like others in San Antonio and beyond, suffers from the outcome of eating over-processed foods. This is the bedrock of our motivation.

What does this look like? Our mission is to offer culinary courses to multiple demographics. The issues above do not solely affect a single group in our community. These courses will cover a range of knowledge from knife skills, food science, budgeting, and even meal planning.

If anyone in our community eats, our array of cooking courses is made for them. Every bit of programming will introduce the importance of efficiency in the home kitchen while understanding the importance of having fun in the practice of cooking.

The Classes

Below is just a small glimpse of some classes we will offer:
Gastronomy Bootcamps
If you have experienced a bootcamp of ours in the past, you know how much fun and informative they are. These deep dives into cooking, food science, and culinary hacks transform the understanding of home cooking. Knife skills, sauce-making, and proper cooking techniques are just some topics covered.

Primary Cooking
The transition from high school to college has enough challenges. Our Primary Cooking course offers cooking programming for students entering the real world that educates on cooking fundamentals, eating on a budget, value adding to meals and so much more.

Team Building Course
We’ve all sat through team building in our jobs. Imagine a team-building exercise that brought your organization together around the art of food. Courses range from group sushi rolling courses to meal preparation, all in the name of working together.

Culinary Tutoring
The need for every person to better themselves in the kitchen is great. Our tutoring courses will pinpoint what that need is on a student-by-student basis. Ranging from fundamentals, and meal planning, to even regional cuisines, this aspect of our programming offers smaller courses for a one-on-one experience. This tutoring extends to those in the industry as well. Many culinary school students need a place to better understand the fundamentals. We seek to offer just that. 18+ welcome.

Open Course
Programming will also be open to the public for courses ranging from regional cuisines, and holiday-specific meals to even supper cooking clubs. Each of these will be advertised on our website and social media alike.

School Visits
We at Gastronomy love our school partners. Our Food Science and Gastronomic Heritage courses have been favorites throughout San Antonio. With this move, we will be able to offer hands-on culinary courses to these partners for a wide range of age-appropriate programming.

A note about accreditation. Gastronomy seeks to build life skills in the form of cooking at home. We do not seek to offer any professional accreditation for our courses on behalf of the culinary workforce.

The Kitchen

We have been busy. Starting this year, we have started an agreement with Meta Church, located on the northwest side of San Antonio. Meta Church has acquired this location that was once a bingo hall. The bingo hall used our proposed place as a concession kitchen, equipping it with a commercial vent-a-hood, refrigeration, and sinks.

Each component of this kitchen is commercial grade, allowing us to be up-to-date on the city of San Antonio’s health department requirements. Some major additions to the kitchen need to be purchased for us to take this next step.

All inspections for the space are being scheduled to comply with state and local health codes. A portion of our funding raised will go to the licenses, permits, and fees needed to open the doors.

Meta church has been amazing in helping us not only dream of this space but also in the timing of our rental agreement. We couldn’t be more thankful for their generosity and willingness to see this through.

Timing

We have been very careful with our timing in opening our doors, as well as when we wanted to start conducting courses for the public. It is our goal to start conducting classes in 2025. Before this launch, Gastronomy will be using the kitchen space for our catering services.

Funding

Gastronomy is for our city and beyond. In that spirit, we wanted to offer an opportunity for our network, friends, and even strangers to come alongside us to see this become a reality. Every dollar will go towards opening our doors and moving forward with the mission.

Thank you!

We at Gastronomy cannot express our thankfulness toward our community, family, and friends. It is because of your encouragement, advice, and patronage that we can move forward in this way. If you decide to give, you are investing in countless futures, not just ours. Thank you.
