As stated in our constitution, the purpose for which this organization has been formed shall be without regard to political affiliation, ethnic background, sex, color, or creed. Our mission is to enrich the quality of life and strengthen unity amongst Tanzanians living in the New York Metropolitan and surrounding areas. Some of our specific objectives for this year include (i) helping
immigrant families become more financially stable and be residents of good standing by offering classes, workshops and/or programs and professional advice, (ii) increasing awareness of the organization to its members and improve ways of communication outside and within the organization and (iii) empowering the youth.
2. There are a number of Tanzanian immigrants who are experiencing culture shock and are missing the necessary information regarding healthcare, insurance, employment and training, education, children and youth programs and networking that can help them integrate into the American way of life. The NYTC seeks to ease the culture shock and provide the necessary connections and resources to support the transition to life in America.
3. New York Tanzanian Community will conduct the following:
● Seminars/workshops to build awareness and to empower our communities. So, we may be able to the face challenges that come about in our community.
○ Job development and readiness training programs; resume and cover letter building, inform about the interviewing process; perform mock interviews with help from specialized individual and professionals.
○ Good Credit and Financial awareness session(s)
○ Health Awareness Fair-work with doctors and/or nurses to provide information about health and offer basic health check-ups
○ Immigration sessions that bring lawyers and other community leaders together to raise awareness around State, Community, and Federal Law and their impact on the Tanzanian immigrant community.
○ Conduct education information sessions, workshops, and events; e.g. Youth Swahili classes, college prep sessions, Test prep tutoring, etc. to prepare our youth and young adults to become responsible community members
○ Networking events that connect the community and allow members and friends to socialize with like-minded individuals
4. The goals and objectives we wish to accomplish as result of these programs include, but are not limited to, empowering our community by increasing knowledge and building awareness by exposing individuals to available and necessary resources with the objective of creating a self-sufficient and sustaining community.
