As both an educator and a parent, I’ve spent my life trying to create brighter futures for children. As you know, while traditional education is valuable, it often falls short in equipping our children with the skills they need to build and sustain wealth. Financial literacy and entrepreneurship are critical tools for breaking cycles of poverty, yet these lessons are rarely included in our school curricula.

This disparity is alarming and underscores the need for intentional action. If we truly want to change the trajectory of our future in the economic world, we have to start with our youth.. This is where Rise Of The Phoenix Academy comes in. I am building an after-school program designed to empower Black and Brown youth with practical, life-changing skills.

Our curriculum will focus on financial literacy and entrepreneurship, ensuring that our children learn how to create and sustain wealth, not just earn wages. Additionally, we will provide training in high-demand trade skills like carpentry, electrical work, and welding—fields that offer not only financial stability but also opportunities for business ownership and growth.

Our program will focus on three key areas:

   •   Financial Literacy & Entrepreneurship: Teaching kids how to create and sustain wealth, build businesses, and make empowered financial decisions.

   •   Trade Skills Training: Providing hands-on training in high-demand fields like carpentry, electrical work, and welding, which offer financial stability and opportunities for business ownership.

   •   Enrichment Activities: Introducing students to activities like golf, tennis, and piano lessons—not just for fun, but to open doors to professional networks and spaces that have historically excluded our communities.

This program is about more than just education—it’s about changing lives and reshaping the future. Imagine a generation of young leaders who are financially independent, confident, and ready to take on the world. But I can’t do this alone. I need your help to make this vision a reality.       •   Designing and implementing our financial literacy and entrepreneurship curriculum.

      •   Purchasing books, software, and other resources to teach budgeting, investing, and business planning.

2. Trade Skills Training:

      •   Acquiring tools, safety equipment, and materials for hands-on training in carpentry, electrical work, and welding.

      •   Hiring certified instructors to teach these high-demand trade skills.

3. Extracurricular Activities:

      •   Covering the cost of golf, tennis, and piano lessons, including equipment rentals, coaching fees, and transportation to venues.

      •   Ensuring these activities are accessible to students regardless of financial background.

4. Program Space and Operations:

      •   Renting and maintaining a safe, welcoming space for after-school programs.

      •   Covering utilities, technology needs, and administrative costs.

5. Community Outreach and Scholarships:

      •   Ensuring participation is free or low-cost for students by providing scholarships for families in need.

      •   Reaching out to underserved communities to maximize program enrollment.
