The Black Woman is GOD and the Marlowe Gallery
Help Marlowe Gallery expand Black artists access and recognition in the Bay Area art scene and beyond, so we need your support to do that! With your help, we will keep and maintain a gallery in a neighborhood where our visibility is needed to produce opportunities for artists.
My name is Karen Seneferu. I am an artist, activist, and change-maker. I love Black art and work to create spaces for Black artists in general and Black women artists in particular, for often We are marginalized in the art world.
Last year I was able to obtain a gallery in the heart of the Union Square, a phenomenal feet where the Black presence is often invisible. The first exhibition made the capacity for the space with 250 people in attendance for the opening reception. This year we anticipate more people because there are more artists participating. This exhibit We See Us feels like a family reunion-performers, artists, healers, and stewards helping to make this mammoth exhibition possible — providing a platform for over 60 Black visual artists to contribute over 80 pieces of artwork with dancers, drummers, and performers to activate the exhibition at the opening reception. Support this exhibition of eleven years, giving beauty, love, culture and grace to all who attend.
This is what we have done so far and what we are asking you to support:

As community, it is necessary to call on our Ancestral Intelligence to transform our next journey. At its center The Black Woman Is God holds space for Black women creators. However, there is a need for the Black family to stand together at the vortex of our creativity and culture in this exhibition. The title "We See Us" is a celebration of making the invisible, visible- to Us, bringing Black men into the center with us, inviting Black youth to say in the exhibit what they desire from Us, and acknowledging Black women’s resistance to this violent world against Us. Therefore, the exhibit "We See Us" needs all of Us to come together to produce a new civilization against the undermining of the divine in Us all.
