Empower Young Women at Damascus Skills Center

My name is Claire, and I am raising funds for the Damascus Vocational Skills Center in Bukhaweka, Uganda. This incredible school provides young women with essential vocational training in areas like tailoring, hairdressing, and agriculture, empowering them with the skills to build a better future for themselves and their families.

Many of these girls have faced immense challenges, including poverty and limited access to education. With your support, we can ensure the Damascus school continues to thrive, providing these girls with the tools they need to break the cycle of poverty and create sustainable livelihoods.

The money raised goes directly toward the school’s operations, ensuring it can continue providing vital education and training. It covers teacher salaries and supplies for the different vocational programs like tailoring (such as cloth, needles, and thread), hairdressing (oils, clippers), and agriculture (seeds and seedlings). We collaborate closely with the school to manage their monthly budget, ensuring that every dollar is used effectively to empower these young women with the skills they need to build better futures.

This past summer, I had the incredible opportunity to work at the school and with the girls who attend, which makes the cause even more personal and meaningful to me. Supporting this school holds a special place in my heart. My connection to the school came through my Nanna, who introduced me to her longtime priest friend, Father Timothy. He founded the school on his own property and has been deeply committed to initiatives aimed at supporting and uplifting vulnerable young women. The school is named after his father, Damascus, who was a teacher himself, further cementing the school’s legacy of education and empowerment.
