Due to social and economic barriers, joining the aviation community seems like a dream for many; "We cannot become what we do not see around us"
This is where www.airspeedalive.org comes into play. AirSpeed Alive is a 501c3 EIN 93-1448141
Say it "AIRSPEED ALIVE!"
You are the pilot in command. The plane has just been cleared for take off. You now move the throttle to full power. As you speed up down the runway at 20 mph, 30 mph, and 50 mph, and as you reach 60 MPH, you take a confirmation look on your dashboard to ensure all gauges are working correctly and that you have met the minimum speed required to leave the ground. If not, you throttle down and cancel your flight. However, once these conditions are met, you state, "AIRSPEED ALIVE." As you pull back on the yoke, you feel the gravity of the plane as it lifts off the ground, and you continue to climb 100ft, 500 ft, and 1400ft as you clear the airport and head to your destination.
Funds will go toward arranging DISCOVERY FLIGHTS and Quarterly Aviation Day camps at a local airport to expose youth. At these events, the students are in the pilot seat! The student and a Flight Instructor run through the checklists and position the plane on the runway. As they gain speed, the student will have the option of pulling back on the stick that will lift them into the air, a feeling ANY STUDENT will never forget! To find out more, go to www.airspeedalive.org
AIRSPEED ALIVE’s NFP mission is to increase the number of underrepresented social and economically disadvantaged children who want to be a pilot or work in aerospace careers, including aircraft mechanics, air traffic controllers, airport management, etc. We will accomplish this with local outreach, guidance counseling, discovery flights, free access to pilot training resources, and an introduction to the local aviation community.
Our goals:
• To motivate youth to become educationally prepared for life.
• To increase minority participation in aerospace through exposure, training, mentoring, and scholarships.
• To increase the number of underrepresented minority pilots in aerospace and related industries.
• Attend Pilot-centric events to expose candidates to resources.
• To retain beneficiaries as future members and mentors to create a repeatable process.
