Hello from the Flashpoint Mission Builder team in Papua New Guinea! We are just wrapping up our three and a half week mission trip and have been incredibly blessed by the time we spent here. We have had many opportunities to witness the incredible power of God here at YWAM Madang, and we are sure that the memories and lessons we have learned will follow us through life. Our team consists of Matt Glick, Amos Fisher, David King, Jonathan Byler, and William Martin. The five of us have been inspired by what we have seen here, and the need is obvious in this third-world country.
Papua New Guinea holds the title of the most linguistically diverse nation in the world, boasting over 800 distinct indigenous languages across its 22 provinces. During our 3.5 weeks here, we have been truly inspired by the vision of YWAM Madang as they strive to reach those who are lost in this area. The needs are incredible! One of the many aspects of YWAM Madang’s mission involves collaborating with local PNG communities to translate the Bible into 35 different languages. As Flashpoint Mission Builders, our role was to prepare a warehouse for the completion of this Bible translation. The necessary materials were sourced and shipped, and everything appeared to be in place. However, upon our arrival, we learned that the shipping containers with all our supplies were being held at the port for reasons unknown. Now, three weeks later, they remain stuck. The YWAM team has been working diligently to resolve the situation, but they are facing challenges due to extremely poor management at the port. As a non-profit organization, YWAM has been exempted from certain import taxes and duties, so retrieving the containers should not involve significant costs. Unfortunately, due to the mismanagement at the Madang port, authorities are demanding an additional $15,000 USD beyond what YWAM should owe.
While the containers are a pressing concern, they represent just one facet of the mission here. PNG is not a wealthy nation, and operating a base, maintaining facilities, sending outreach teams, and providing daily meals for over 80 people is quite costly. While YWAM has been blessed by being able to purchase the base here in Madang, it has stretched their funds to the breaking point, and unfortunately, due to the poverty here in PNG, most students and workers who pay to stay here at the base are unable to recoup even their own costs. The opportunity for outreach is abundant in PNG, as the people are very open to the message of the gospel. The five of us participated in an outreach led by Peter, one of the staff members at the base, and we saw five individuals commit their lives to Jesus! These new believers are now in need of guidance and education. This, along with spreading the Gospel, is at the heart of YWAM’s mission!
Remember to keep YWAM's efforts in PNG in your thoughts and prayers. If you can, think about donating a day's wages or even $100 to support the work being done. Your contribution will make a significant impact and help further God's kingdom in PNG.
YWAM Madang is transforming lives every day! Join us in this mission by contributing to our cause! We aim to raise $50,000 to help build the kingdom here in Papua New Guinea!
All donations received will be collected in the States, then wired internationally to PNG.
All the nations you have made shall come
and worship before you, O Lord,
and shall glorify your name. Psalms 86:9
