Empowering a Queer Black Woman in Medicine

Donation protected
I have a friend that might disown me for doing this but she has been working her butt off to get through medical school and I want to do whatever I can to support her as she graduates and heads to her first year of residency.

She’s a queer black woman with a heart of gold and she is going to CHANGE LIVES. She’s going to be a family medicine doctor (“from the womb to the tomb” as she says) and I already know that anyone lucky enough to receive care from her will be better for it.

The next 3 or so years she will work long and hard hours and will have very minimal opportunity to enjoy life. She will have very limited time off and be living on a first year resident salary.

Some stats:
-Only 5.7% of US doctors are Black

-The average medical school graduate owes $250,995 in student loan debt, which is four times the average college graduate.

-The average Resident Physician salary in California is $73,584 as of April 24, 2024, but the range typically falls between $67,870 and $78,707.

I don’t know her exact financial situation but I do know that she’s doing this on her own.

As she transitions from school to residency, let’s get her set up with a little something so she can travel before her life changes (she’s thinking Belize for a week) and if we can help her with one or 2 months of student loan payments, I’d love to see it.

I’m a strong believer in every community having a doctor that looks like them and we all know the Black community deserves better medical care. Let’s help her help her community.

Thanks y'all
