The Challenge: A Growing Food Crisis
Across Africa, millions of smallholder farmers struggle against the devastating effects of climate change, soil degradation, and crop diseases. Meanwhile, scientists eager to solve these challenges lack access to cutting-edge training and resources. The result? A widening gap between research and real-world agriculture, leaving communities vulnerable to food insecurity.
Our Solution: Investing in Africa’s Next Generation of Agricultural Innovators & Smallholder Farmers
At JR Biotek Foundation, an African-led non-profit organization, we believe that the solution lies in Africa’s own scientists and innovators. Through our Roots of Resilience Summit and Agri-Innovation & Impact Project (AGRIIP), we provide:
✅ Specialized training and access to resources to advance knowledge and innovation for safeguarding crops and livelihoods threatened by climate change.
✅ Hands-on mentorship and research funding to support early-career African scientists and future innovators.
✅ Collaborative projects that bring scientists and farmers together to co-create climate-resilient solutions for food and nutrition security.
✅ Sustainable agriculture innovations that directly improve food security and livelihoods.
Our Impact So Far: Driving Change, Building Resilience
- Empowering the Next Generation of Scientists: We have trained 260+ African researchers in person and 10,000+ virtually across 19+ countries, equipping them with cutting-edge bioscience and agricultural innovation skills.
- Bridging Research and Real-World Solutions: Through initiatives like the Africa Mycorrhizal Mapping & Metagenomics Project, co-pioneered with SPUN and CSIR-Crops Research Institute (Ghana), we are transforming soil conservation, enhancing fertility, and advancing sustainable agriculture.
- Fueling Innovation & Entrepreneurship: Programs like the JR Biotek Africa Bio-Innovation Pitch Challenge have supported Africa-based startups, benefiting 2,500+ farmers by providing access to high-quality indigenous seeds and improved farming techniques.
- Global & African Collaborations for Greater Impact: We partner with world-class institutions like Cambridge University, SPUN, and leading African research institutions, including Centre for Dryland Agriculture, Bayero University (Nigeria), CSIR-Crops Research Institute (Ghana) and others. Together, we drive pioneering research in climate resilience, soil health, and disease-resistant crops, strengthening food systems across Africa.
- Scaling Transformative Solutions: Our Agri-Innovation & Impact Project (AGRIIP) is uniting 100 agricultural scientists and 3,000+ smallholder farmers to develop and implement climate-smart agricultural practices for long-term food security.
Why Your Support Matters Now
In 2025, we aim to scale our impact in Africa, led by African scientists, with support from partners across the globe:
- Empowering 100 African scientists with world-class training, mentorship, and resources to collaborate with over 3,000 smallholder farmers, especially women, to co-develop climate-smart agricultural innovations for the continent.
- Establishing field-based innovation hubs in Africa, where scientists and farmers collaborate to test and implement real-world solutions tailored to local challenges.
- Expanding climate-smart farming initiatives, strengthening food security and promoting sustainable agricultural practices across multiple African countries.
- Hosting the Roots of Resilience Summit, uniting leading African scientists, farmers, and policymakers with global partners to drive actionable solutions.
