Empowering Everleigh: Her Transplant Journey

Donation protected
Empowering Everleigh community, we are reopening this campaign on behalf of Luke and Emma Huskey in light of recent developments in Everleigh’s bone marrow transplant journey.

If you’re new to Everleigh’s story, at the age of 4 (January 2024), she was diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia. She received care at Children’s Nebraska from January 2024-March 2024 before moving to Minneapolis, MN to undergo what would end up being a 5-month journey to receiving a complete bone marrow transplant. The transplant was successful and Everleigh moved back to Omaha, NE and reunited with her 2 sisters and both parents after being apart for many months.

Since the Fall, Everleigh has had weekly appointments at Children’s Nebraska. They have monitored her care closely and she has been on a rigorous medication lineup including immunosuppressants. In November, Everleigh started showing symptoms of Graft versus Host Disease- GVHD (rejection of transplant) in her lungs.

The Huskey family traveled to Minnesota this past week (March 10-14th, 2025) and underwent further testing to discover Everleigh’s body is continuing to show signs of GVHD and those symptoms have spread to multiple organs, beyond just her lungs.

Due to the progression of rejection symptoms, Everleigh will have to move all care back to Minneapolis with her transplant doctors. The Huskey family will head to MN next Thursday to begin a study with 2 new immunosuppressant medications. She will have biweekly appointments in MN for the next 6-8 months minimum. They are hopeful to have caught it early enough that they can reverse the rejection with aggressive care.

It has been very somber for Luke and Emma to receive this news. Everleigh is now 5, almost 6, and while most days she is spunky, playful, and silly, her body is internally fighting against itself.

With the transfer of care comes a lot of logistical challenges, including Nebraska Medicaid not being accepted in MN, increased travel expenses, and unpaid time off work for Luke who is currently working 2 jobs.

We are humbling asking our Empowering Everleigh Community to step up again to show support to Luke, Emma, Everleigh, Lilly, and Emery.

All gifts will go to travel costs for their every other weekly trips. Each trip is around $500 if you want to sponsor a trip or part of a trip. If there is another way you would like to support, please reach out to us.

Your love, support, and prayers are such an amazing blessing to our family. With every challenge, just when we are tempted to give in to despair, your encouragement helps keep us going.

Thank you for loving this family in such incredible ways. We look forward to sharing with you stories of God’s goodness and blessing in this stage of the journey.
