Empowering girls in rural Kenya - WISER School

The WISER school in Muhuru Bay Kenya is a transformative educational institution that empowers girls and communities through education and holistic health initiatives. Led by a dedicated team from the Kenyan entity, WISER NGO, and the U.S. 501c3 nonprofit, WISER International, the school provides a safe and supportive environment for girls to learn, grow, and thrive.

WISER has quickly established an extraordinary track record of success. Just 15 years ago, only 5% of girls from the small village of Muhuru Bay graduated secondary school and none had gone on to university in decades. Now, WISER girls are three times more likely to qualify for higher education compared to students from other schools in Kenya. The school has enrolled 524 students and boasts a graduation rate of over 99%. In addition, WISER has provided over 1 million nutritious meals to students, distributed 3,300 textbooks to support their learning, and ensured access to menstrual hygiene products, saving 101,344 school days for girls who would have otherwise missed school. The school has the only water filtration system in Muhuru Bay, providing clean water not only to WISER students but also to approximately 15,000 people in the community and surrounding areas.
