Empowering Sandra: A 3-year-old with Autism

Meet Sandra, an amazing 3-year-old with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Sandra struggled to meet her developmental milestones shortly after the first year of her life. She was initially diagnosed with a speech delay, but as she got older, we started to notice other signs that were a cause for concern. We then began the process of getting an early intervention (EI) evaluation with the state and enrolled her in daycare, hoping that the socialization and structured setting would help.

We were right! Sandra began to improve, she started saying more than a handful of words, yet not enough to be considered verbal and was still struggling in all other areas of development. Sadly when it came time to do an EI evaluation, she ended up getting sick and continued to get sick every couple of weeks. This caused us to miss our appointments, her case was dropped, and we needed to begin the process all over. Unfortunately, EI is only up to the age of 3 and she was a few months away from her birthday, so we were instructed to go through a pediatric developmental evaluation when she turns 3.

Since then Sandra has continued to improve as we worked with her daycare to support her as best as we could, and got her evaluated. After a few tests, we received the official diagnosis, and even though we knew ASD was a possibility, it wasn't easy to hear. We spent the following week researching and learning as much as we could. However, we realized that we are unable to afford the help and support she needs.

Our goal is to provide Sandra with access to specialized therapies, educational resources, and tools tailored to her individual needs. These interventions will enhance her communication skills, social interactions, and motor abilities, empowering her to express herself and connect with others on a deeper level.

The funds raised will also contribute to establishing a sensory-friendly environment at home, creating a safe space where Sandra can flourish and explore the world around her without overwhelming stimuli. Additionally, we aim to enroll her in inclusive programs that foster her interests and promote her growth.
