Introduction

At Justice pour Tous Internationale / Justice for All International, we are committed to addressing global injustices and advocating for human rights. Today, we are excited to launch our fundraiser, "Empowering SMB Entrepreneurs, Upholding Rights", which seeks to address the protection gap that exists for small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) within global regulatory frameworks.

Why This Campaign Matters

Despite their vital role in fostering economic growth, innovation, and prosperity, SMBs often face overwhelming challenges due to complex regulatory frameworks designed to counter money laundering and terrorism financing. While these regulations are crucial for global security, they often inadvertently burden SMB entrepreneurs with compliance requirements that stifle their growth.

SMB entrepreneurs, by nature, should remain neutral and focused on their business operations, contributing to economic and social development without being dragged into political or security-related issues. Unfortunately, existing regulatory frameworks sometimes pull them into political conflicts, further complicating their ability to thrive.

Through our work, we have identified a significant gap in the UN human rights system, which lacks a dedicated mandate to address the rights and challenges of SMB entrepreneurs. Entrepreneurs, especially from small and medium-sized businesses, do not have a specialized mechanism to protect their rights within the international human rights framework. This is where our mission becomes crucial.

Our Ultimate Goal

We advocate for the establishment of a UN Special Rapporteur on the rights of entrepreneurs—a mandate that would focus on the rights and challenges of these businesses, ensuring they receive the attention and protection they deserve at an international level. This rapporteur would provide a dedicated focus to address the unique difficulties SMB entrepreneurs face, including ensuring their neutrality in political issues while allowing for more effective global protections.

Our Work So Far

Our organization has already engaged in advocacy efforts with UN mechanisms, calling for a more inclusive system that acknowledges the struggles of entrepreneurs globally. By assisting entrepreneurs in navigating human rights violations, we have laid the groundwork for the reforms needed in international and national systems to address this issue.
