Empowerment Zone Encouraging Teens
This is Alex, one of the most amazing guys I’ve ever met. He is an usher for the Braves along w working a few other jobs. Most of his days start with work at 5am and he gets home after midnight. On top of this, he has been caring for many young men in his neighborhood (south Atlanta) between the ages of 13-18 who don’t have parents or who’s parents can’t take care of them or are in jail, along with two boys of his own. Alex acts as their parent giving them a place to stay sometimes months or years at a time, supporting them financially, feeding them, teaching them, attending school parent meetings, in jobs, with clothes, interviews, faith, and the list goes on. He does all this with the small paychecks he receives from his many jobs. He has dedicated his life to being a mentor to so many boys from his neighborhood trying to help them get on the right path and finish school so they don’t end up on the wrong one, in jail or dead, like so many he has seen. At one given time he may have up to 16 boys living with him. His dream and goal for these kids is to purchase a building nearby, where he can host these boys and girls daily, giving them a safe place to go, to stay to learn and to have opportunities they might never have otherwise. The list of needs: food, shelter, school supplies, support etc seems endless, but with a building to begin, this would provide all of these teens an enormous chance at succeeding. I am so excited for Alex and all of these teens and the ones that come after them. Lets give them the chance they all deserve. Please consider donating here.
For more information, see the article in the AJC from 7.19.20 on Alex and EZET. Our main goal right now is to purchase a building and begin renovating so Alex can provide a safe place for everyone to gather, live if needed, and learn the skills they need to succeed. Thank you in advance!
