The Backstory
This past November, our beloved cousin Emre Demirbay was diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer. Emre is being treated right now but has been unable to work for months due to his illness. He has only minimal health insurance and little savings left. This charity will help his family pay for the exorbitant costs of his treatment and recovery.
What happened
Emre had been experiencing debilitating neck and back pain, headaches and bouts of blurry vision for almost two years. During that time, he had seen numerous doctors and specialists, but none was able to discover what was wrong with him. Only in November of last year, when he was taken to the Emergency Room due to agonizing pain, an MRI revealed a brain tumor the size of an orange. Emre required immediate brain surgery but a significant part of the mass was irremovable as it had infiltrated a precarious area of his brain. The biopsy showed that he has a fast growing, malignant and, aggressive form of brain cancer known as Anaplastic Astrocytoma Grade 3.
Why we need your help
We are spearheading this campaign on his behalf because we know Emre is too humble to ask for your help himself. While he has been the sole financial provider for his family, he is currently undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatments that will last for months and will prevent him from working. Emre is a 42-year-old loving husband and father. He and his wife Demet have two loving and beautiful children, Su Eva (8 years old) and Demir Han (13 years old). We are not focusing on prognosis but instead maintaining hope and praying for healing for him and his entire family. This family has gone through a lot in the past couple of years. The shocking news of Emre’s brain cancer follows on the heels of his father death due to a fatal heart attack and his mother’s passing only months later to cancer.

According to the National Brain Tumor Society, brain cancer had the highest per-patient initial cost of care for any cancer group, with an annualized cost of care approaching $150,000.

We are hoping to raise money to help pay for the family’s living as well as our cousin’s medically related expenses including medical treatment, rent, food, utilities, the children’s schooling and daily needs, transportation to the hospital, etc. Emre cannot work right now and his health insurance is minimal. This is going to be a long and challenging road and, we would appreciate any assistance in the form of financial donations, emotional support, and/or prayers.
