Help Em Begin Recovery from Cancer Surgery
Donation protected
Hello, I'm Em, co-host of the Abnormal Mapping network of podcasts. In the middle of July, 2024, I was admitted into the hospital with abdominal pain that I thought was maybe appendicitis and turned out to be colon cancer I didn't even know I had that had grown to the point it was causing an obstruction. One emergency surgery later and I'm down half a colon and (hopefully, we're just starting this misadventure) cancer free, but I was hospitalized for over two weeks this month, and will have to take at least another two weeks off to recovery post surgery and during my initial round of recovery appointments, meeting with oncologists, etc.
This funding is an initial amount that reflects missing four weeks of work plus my out of pocket insurance expenses for the year. I hope that's all I'll have to raise, but I don't even know how long this road is going to be or what's all going to be involved, so I expect the number to drift a little bit if I have to be out of work for longer, or if some surprise medical bills come up, etc. I don't even have clear guidance yet on if I'll need follow up chemo for the cancer. Right now the answer is no, but that answer might change when I see my oncologist next week.
I know times are tight for everyone, and the thing with medical bills is they won't go away so it's not like I have to pay them right this second, so please don't put yourself in a precarious spot donating to this. But people have been asking if they can help, and for now this is the minimum number I know it will take to recovery from this situation especially as normal bills like rent and groceries have kept coming while I'm out of work. Thank you everyone who shares or donates, I'm going to do my best to get better and come back to entertaining people as soon as I'm able.
