Ryan Hagge, my partner and best friend of 15 years, woke up on the morning of January 25th and headed to the kitchen to grab his morning cup of coffee. Never in my wildest dreams did I or he know that within 5 minutes both of our lives would be turned upside down. Ryan suffered a major heart attack. When I heard my name called in a soft tight voice, my heart sank and the fear I felt only exacerbated when I saw the panic in his eyes. In my head, the only thought, as I rushed Ryan to the hospital was that he has no choice but to be okay, no options, no excuses. Attempts at angioplasty failed and bypass surgery was performed. Ryan is currently in the ICU with around the clock nurse support and constant monitoring. He has suffered some setbacks and may need more procedures in the days to come. Progress is slow and he has not been taken off of any support machines at this time. *Update* Jan. 29th Ryan has been taken off of the balloon pump which is incredibly good news! *Update#2* Feb. 4th Doctors found a MRSA blood infection and he has been in isolation for the last week. The first antibiotic prescribed he had an allergic reaction to so they gave him a new one this morning. His cardiologist has scheduled another procedure tomorrow where they will put a defibrillator in his chest to counteract some of the damage caused from his heart attack on the 25th and his two cardiac arrests the night of the 26th. We are focused on one thing at a time to get him better. I want to take him home just hopefully waiting until it's safe to do so.
The Request:
It is unknown what amount the hospital, doctor, and lab bills will be but I am seeking assistance to give Ryan more support as he progresses in the ICU and focus on getting him home to fully recover. He has been my rock in the past and I want to be that for him. The money will be spent on day to day regular bills, car payment, groceries, medications, etc. To alleviate the stress of the bills and to give everything I can to get him home would mean more to me than I could ever express. Almost 5 years ago to the day I underwent an emergency appendectomy and the strength and time he showed me when the roles were reversed, I want to repay him and more.
A little past bio:
Ryan recently returned to substitute teaching, an area he excelled in in Illinois prior to his move to Las Vegas. He has spent many hours in special needs class rooms and as tired and frazzled as he would come home, Ryan would tell stories of all his little victories with his students with fondess and humility. He has also recently started a position with Macy's and his big heart and empathy for others has brought him home in tears from both jobs. Right now on his to do list attached to the refrigerator is a note to buy a birthday card for one of his clients who recently turned 80 and he just wanted to put a smile on her face when she came to pick up her purchase. Please help me take care of this amazing person, my love, Ryan.
