MESSAGE FROM ODIN:
Dear Friends and Family,
There are many bad things that have come with the pandemic: The infection of millions, hundreds of thousands of deaths, the economy in decline, thousands of lost jobs, mass evictions, hunger, and much more. Most of these bad things are social problems, not natural problems. In Toronto, thousands of people are without homes or adequate shelter right now, and many people are living in tents in city parks. The Encampment Support Network (ESN) is a Toronto-based grassroots organization dedicated to getting food, water, warm clothing and gear, legal aid, and even small shelters to people who are experiencing homelessness and sleeping outside each night in Toronto. Right now it’s winter and it is cold outside. Honestly, for me I cannot stand the fact that there are thousands of people forced to sleep on the streets when there are so many empty apartments and condos in Toronto, and when there is so much wealth nearby. More has to be done: The government needs to step in to ban evictions, for example, and needs to provide adequate shelter for all as a basic human right. I am raising money to donate to the Encampment Support Network so they can continue doing their good work. If you live in a warm house or apartment and have food and comfort in these hard times, please consider donating to this cause. More information about the Encampment Support Network is listed below.
Thank you,
Odin (13yo)

MESSAGE FROM FIONA:
(copied from above letter)
Dear Friends and Family,
Right now all across Toronto there are people without houses or shelter living in parks. Instead of helping, the city is destroying the tents and taking them away. Meanwhile there are condos and hotels sitting empty. All humans should have food, water, shelter, and heat. Big changes need to be made to give people what they need. I am writting letters to politicians to tell them this. In the meantime I am also asking for donations to the Encampment Support Network (ESN for short). They are a great group helping people who are in the tent cities survive the winter. Please consider giving even $5 or $10 to the ESN.
Love,
Fiona (9yo)
