End Eating Disorders

Hi everyone!
We are setting up this page as up until the #DumpTheScales campaign and wider work on Eating Disorders has been self funded but we want to make an even bigger impact, reach more people, and have more influence and we need your help!
The last few years have seen a huge rise in the number of people struggling with eating disorders. Despite this well-documented increase, and eating disorders’ high mortality risks, they remain inadequately addressed with long waiting times for treatment, particularly for young adults and inadequate availability of evidence-based treatment options in many areas of the country. This is despite the fact that the UK has led the way in developing many of these treatments.
Eating disorders are often stigmatised and misunderstood as lifestyle choices affecting only a specific demographic, leading to the severe underfunding of adult services. In truth, eating disorders impact individuals of all ages, sizes, genders, and ethnicities.
Since 2022, this disturbing misunderstanding has grown, with more people being denied treatment, considered too complex, or seen as lacking motivation to be helped. Alarmingly, some are being placed on palliative care pathways, which contradicts all good practice guidelines. Eating disorders are fully treatable with the right therapeutic and nutritional support.
The Movement: Ending Eating Disorders
For too long eating disorders have been dismissed and stigmatised. They have faced decades of underfunding, stigma, and neglect. With the growing number of diagnoses and more people being labelled as untreatable or ‘treatment-resistant’, we have decided that enough is enough. This campaign is for anybody and everybody who cares about eating disorders and wants to change the way they are treated, as well as the stigmas, stereotypes and judgments often associated with them.
Our campaign calls include: ending the postcode lottery, promoting intersectionality in research and treatment, ensuring equitable and timely access to evidence-based treatments, mandatory health screening for all high-risk groups, and workforce training on eating disorders.
Historically we have funded the #DumpTheScales campaign work ourselves, and whilst everyone who works for the campaign is doing so in a voluntary capacity given the scale of the problem, we cannot do this alone. We need your help to raise enough money so that we can reach every single person struggling and so that we can have maximum impact on the Government and NHS.
