End loneliness and isolation amongst the elderly.
Do you want to join us in making a difference? On the 19th of March, we hope to complete a marathon to raise money in aid of ALONE and every donation will help. We're taking this on as a personal challenge to help combat the difficulties some people face every day. Thank you for taking the time to read this and ask that you support us by making a contribution, no matter how small, to a cause that means so much to us.
Loneliness amongst elderly people has been linked with a 50% increase in the chances of dementia, 29% increased risk of heart disease and 32% increased risk of having a stroke. Additionally, loneliness is the number one contributing factor to depression for elders.
ALONE works with all older people, including those who are lonely, isolated, frail or ill, homeless, living in poverty, or are facing other difficulties. Furthermore, ALONE is one of the only Irish Charities that puts 100% of donations towards frontline services. ALONE does this by providing support coordination, housing with support, and befriending and campaigning services to over 1,000 older people nationwide weekly as well as an active phone line.
We will be taking on the Barcelona 2023 Marathon in order to push ourselves outside of our comfort zones and create awareness for a great cause. While the training has been and continues to be hard, our efforts are all in an attempt to help bring change and support this worthy cause. Any and all donations will act as a great source of motivation and will drive us over the finish line and is guaranteed to make a difference to someone's life.
