End of Life Care & Funeral Costs for Michael

Michael's Story
I'm Kate, pictured on the left. I'm the older sister of Michael Snow-Godfrey, pictured in sunglasses. This picture was taken in July of 2023 in New York City's Central Park. While I wish I could say this was just another Sunday in the park, the circumstances were bittersweet. First, this picture of us is the first time we had seen each other in 9 years for many complicated reasons. And second...
At the time of this photo, Michael was also fighting cancer.
The cancer had metastasized to stage III and he was about to fight for his life with aggressive chemo and stem-cell treatments. We knew it wouldn't be an easy battle and that his time on this earth might be short so, my family and I made a trip to New York that we couldn't afford and made the memories count (in my eyes, we couldn't afford not to). Michael started treatment the day after we returned home.
We're now 5 months later. 12 rounds of chemo, 2 stem-cell transplants later. Multiple seizures, blood transfusions and several infections, and one eviction from his apartment later (due to his inability to work and make rent while fighting for his life).
And unfortunately, after doing all that he and the doctors could possibly do, we've learned that the treatment is not working. Michael is transitioning into home hospice care and has just a little bit of time left with us. Doctors predict anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 months.
Where Your Donation Will Go:
The cancer has been more than just a physical battle. It's devastated his life and has taken everything from him including the roof over his head. He has no life insurance, no property, or savings. At bare minimum Michael is needing:
- a Last Will & Testament + Notary services ($200)
- Cremation and Urn ($3,000)
- His ashes scattered at Fire Island in New York. The cost for my family to fly in and stay there is about $2500 just for airfare and a hotel.
- unknown costs that accompany Death or funds toward a small memorial service ($5,000)
I wish I was prepared for this, but as his sister and not much older than he, I'm just not ready to bury my brother. Financially, or otherwise. Humbly, I need your help.
Will you please join me in providing end of life care and peace of mind for my not-so-little brother? No one should have to spend their last few weeks or months worrying about the cost of their own death. May he know he will finally have a place to rest his head.
Remembering Michael:
Michael is 40 years old. He has a brilliant mind and had he been able to survive the cancer, he dreamed of composing music for orchestra and film. He is resilient and has had to overcome many tremendous losses and hardships in his life. He will soon be released from all pain and struggle and for that, he feels a sense of gratitude and relief. His wishes are to be cremated and scattered among the waves at Fire Island in his home state of New York.
We welcome your prayers, love and support at this time. Every bit helps.
With gratitude,
Kate
