End of life services for John Tursi
Donation protected
Hi my name is Amanda, I am the only child of John Tursi. My father was riding his bicycle when he was hit by a motorcycle who ran a red light. The motorcyclist got back up and on his bike, and continued to speed off without even stopping to see if my father was okay. It is an open investigation but as of currently they have no leads. He was sent to Aventura hospital on June 15th around 2:00 a.m. and was in a coma on a ventilator. His condition consisted of severe brain contusions, a brain bleed, multiple fractures (Shoulder, ribs and lower lumbar), heart contusions, bruising of the lungs, and a dissection to his carotid artery (which was causing blood clots), his intestines were bruised and he had some internal bleeding.
After spending 12 days at Aventura hospital in the ICU, they decided that he was going to be on a ventilator long-term. Hoping that his body would have time to recover, for him to wake up. They then sent him over to a long-term care facility which specializes in waking patients out of a coma.
He spent 7 days at this long-term facility where his condition became even more critical. He did finally open his eyes after about 4 days at this long-term facility. However, when he woke he was unable to respond. The contusions and brain bleed were more severe than what I had expected. The doctors and I didn't have any idea as to how these injuries were going to affect his everyday life until he awoke. Now that he is awake, The doctors say that there is little to no chance of any recovery to the brain. He is on a ventilator which is breathing for him 100%, his lungs have healed very well, however he is still not breathing. Therefore the brain is not telling his lungs to breathe, which the hospital says is not going to change. As of most recently his kidneys have gone into failure, and they want to put him on dialysis. They have deemed him terminally ill.
Because I am my father's only child, all of these responsibilities unexpectedly landed on me . I have missed days of work, I have had to take phone calls at all hours, and make the most difficult decisions. I'm driving to and from Miami as often as I can to visit at the hospitals and to get more information. I'm trying to keep up with the detectives on his case who seem to have given up. I am now trying to plan end of life services for my father. He had no life insurance or any savings. His medical bills are piling up, as well as cremation or any funeral costs are extremely expensive especially for just me to come up with. I hate asking for help but I'm in no position to financially handle this on my own. Anything you can donate could help me cremate my father.
Thank you.
