Empowering Afghan Women

Donation protected
Hi, My name is Susan Aragaki, and I’m a volunteer Advisory Board member from Hawaii for Afghanistan Women Council. While the current situation is desperate there, I am very happy to announce that we have practical, sustainable, innovative, solutions! So read on!

The chaotic pull-out of troops and the financial fallout that ensued has severely impacted Afghans and led to dire conditions of mass hunger with 90% of the population falling below the poverty line. Food insecurity means that people are skipping meals, eating less, are malnourished, and struggling with hyperinflation. The cost for staples has doubled, fuel and fertilizer costs have risen steeply and further impacts from drought have deepened their suffering.

The Taliban have restricted the rights of women and girls, limiting their access to education, work, health care, speech, and free movement. They must be covered head to toe and be accompanied by a male relative to move about.

Our programs offer women an opportunity to attend workshops on a variety of trades. This allows them to contribute to their families and strengthens and supports a sense of community with women.

Grassroots empowerment of women is the way we improve lives and strengthen the role of women in society. We offer humanitarian aid and training for vulnerable women. Please consider a donation to Afghanistan Women Council to fund humanitarian aid, workshop trade training, education and staffing. We CAN do this together!
