Endurance for Oceans: Back GreenWave's Mission

Join me for a day of multisport fun!
We are moving up the evolutionary tree from Coronavirus to Algae. For anyone who doesn't get the reference, starting in COVID, I began organizing a yearly endurance event. The motivations behind the event were to give me something to train for and raise money for some non-profits I thought were rad. In the past, raised funds have gone to Protect Our Winters, Sierra Club, CDC emergency relief fund, and Surfrider. This year I've picked an organization called GreenWave.[1]
As a nonprofit, GreenWave’s goal is to support 10,000 farmers, catalyzing the scaled planting of regenerative ocean crops to yield meaningful economic and climate impacts. Cultivated macroalgae have so many interesting uses such as food, cosmetics, biostimulants, and bioplastics! As a material science grad student, I am loving the educational resources GreenWave has been producing over the last couple of years.
Since we will be swimming over a kelp forest in La Jolla, followed by a run next to one along Sunset Cliffs, I thought this was a fitting organization.
Course:
- Swim from the Scripps Pier to the Cove (1.6 mi)
- Bike Soledad and Fiesta Island Loop to OB (22.5mi)
- Run OB Coast Trail from Sunset Cliffs (6mi)
- Most importantly, post-race BBQ
If you would like to participate in any of the sports, I am thinking a $30 donation per leg for a total of $90 if you want to do the whole event. That's one of the lowest prices for an Olympic length tri you will find! If funds are tight, I understand. Just shoot me a message. Let's have some fun.
