English Channel Challenge to save our Koalas
Hi, my name is Alyssa, I'm 18, and this September, I'll be swimming the epic 35km stretch from England to France for our Aussie Koalas.
During the 2020 bushfires, my family evacuated a national park we were camping at. Looking out of the car window at a firewall, it hit me. All that burning forest was filled with live, native animals.
Shockingly, in the last year alone, tree clearing has nearly tripled in NSW. We’ve lost 1 in 4 koalas in the last 20 years, and at this rate, koalas could be extinct as early as 2050; that's when I'm in my 40s.
But luckily, WWF Australia (World Wide Fund for Nature) is doing incredible work to give injured Koalas essential medical care and restore their habitat. So I'll be doing this swim to raise money and awareness for these Aussie icons.
Thank you for being so supportive! English Channel, here I come.
