English Language Learners and Readers!

Hello everyone! I am a first grade teacher working in a Title I school. This means we have a high population of students classified as low-income. In addition, we have a majority of student who are learning English as a Second Language, or are not English Proficient. With this demographic of students, there is a high need for additional reading support. Many students feel discouraged with their reading abilities, especially when reading books in English. This year, I am hoping to build efficacy and confidence in these young minds by proving them with additional reading resources that will allow them to read, listen to, and interact with books that are at their reading level.

Reading A-Z is an AMAZING program I have previously used that allows teachers to group students based on their reading abilities. Students can also listen to books and take quizzes on the information that they read. This is a hybrid (online in the classroom and in small groups with the teacher) model of learning that provides students with the opportunity to build comprehension skills, listening skills, and speaking skills during reading.

I am also fundraising for my favorite thing- FREE BOOKS. Students will receive 1 book to take home per month during the school year.
