Gaza English Language Tent

Hello, my name is Trent Powelson from Salt Lake City and I am working with some friends in Gaza to create this project.
We are excited to introduce the English Language Tent (ELT) project, a creative and much-needed initiative aimed at providing English education to children in Gaza. My name is Ahmed Elokka, and along with a dedicated team, we are working to create a unique space where learning English is fun, engaging, and accessible to underserved children, ages 6–14.
As a dedicated English teacher with a deep passion for helping children, I have witnessed the struggles faced by the youth in Gaza. Many children here carry water tanks and sell food aid just to survive, while dreaming of a day when they can simply play and learn. After working with UNRWA during the Summer Fun Weeks in 2023, I saw firsthand how these children craved moments of joy. One of my students, while carrying a 20-liter water bottle, expressed his wish to return to the games and activities we had during the summer event. That moment inspired me to create a space where they could once again experience joy and learning.
What is the ELT?
The ELT is not just a classroom—it’s an innovative outdoor learning space where children can explore English through storytelling, drama, arts and crafts, and interactive games. Away from the pressure of grades and formal lessons, children will immerse themselves in English in a way that feels more like play.
Our goal is to inspire and encourage kids to practice speaking, listening, reading, and writing in an enjoyable and creative environment. Through a blend of fun activities and learning, we’re offering them the tools to build brighter futures.
Why Gaza’s Children Need This
Children in Gaza face enormous challenges in accessing quality education. Ongoing conflict and a lack of resources have left many without proper learning environments. English, a critical language for their futures, often falls by the wayside.
The ELT will provide:
* A safe and stable environment where kids can focus on learning.
* Access to educational materials and experiences that are usually out of reach.
* Community support that will boost their confidence in using English.
* Creative and enjoyable learning methods that foster a love for education and give them a sense of normalcy in difficult times.
Our Goal: €30,000
To make this project a reality, we need your support. We’re aiming to raise €30,000, which will cover the costs of building the tent, providing supplies, and ensuring the space is fully equipped and ready for children. Here's a breakdown of our costs:
* Tent structure and classroom setup: €5,000
* Chairs and tables for students: €3,900
* Learning materials, costumes, games, and more: €5,000
* Solar power system for sustainable energy: €6,400
* Basic amenities (bathrooms, water supply): €2,800
* Teacher salaries (3 teachers for 6 months): €9,000
How Your Donation Helps
Every donation brings us closer to providing a safe, joyful, and educational space for children in Gaza. With your help, we can offer these children a chance to learn English in a way that builds their confidence, creativity, and hope for the future. Even small contributions go a long way toward providing resources like stationery, teaching materials, and more.
Our Timeline
As soon as we hit our goal, we’ll start building! Here’s the plan:
* Week 1: Finalize contracts and purchase materials.
* Weeks 2-3: Build the tent structure and classrooms.
* Week 4: Install the solar power system.
* Week 5: Make final adjustments, set up learning materials, and test everything.
* Week 6: Prepare for launch and open the ELT to the children.
