Funding English lessons for asylum seekers – Three Peaks Challenge

The Welsh Refugee Council knows how vital learning English is for asylum seekers and refugees. Our experience and research show that a good grasp of English is key to finding work, accessing services and making friends. It helps people contribute to their local community, develop a sense of belonging and build a new future in Wales.

People who have sought sanctuary from war and persecution, from Afghanistan, Ukraine, Iran and many other countries attend our ESOL classes, which are often oversubscribed.

We want to raise money to provide more opportunities for them to learn and develop language skills. The funds we raise will be used to provide English classes and events that bring people together, where conversations build friendships and understanding.

On the 11th of October, Harry is taking on the Three Peaks Challenge, climbing the three mountains of Blorenge, Sugar Loaf and Skirrid in the Black Mountains with a couple of friends.

Harry - chair of the Welsh Refugee Council said – “The beauty of the mountains and knowledge of your support for this project will encourage my 71-year-old legs up 5,000 ft and along every step of the 22 miles of this walk. Thank you.”
