Ensure Safe Grounds: No PFAS Turf for Burrillville
Donation protected
We are deeply concerned about the potential environmental and health hazards posed by the planned installation of an artificial turf field at Burrillville High School.
There are numerous studies linking artificial turf fields with PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances), often referred to as "forever chemicals." These chemicals accumulate over time and pose significant risks to both human health and our ecosystem. PFAS are incredibly resistant to breaking down, meaning once they enter our groundwater, removal is nearly impossible. We are facing a ticking time bomb that threatens our backyard and water supply.
Water Contamination:
PFAS can leach into the soil and groundwater, contaminating drinking water sources. Once in the water supply, these chemicals are extremely difficult and costly to remove.
Health Risks:
Exposure to PFAS has been linked to severe health issues, including cancer, liver damage, thyroid disease, and immune system suppression. The use of artificial turf could lead to increased exposure and adverse health effects in our community.
Environmental Impact:
PFAS contamination affects not only humans but also wildlife and plant life. The persistence of these chemicals in the environment disrupts ecosystems and harms biodiversity.
Legal Liabilities & Remediation Costs:
Municipalities can be held legally accountable for PFAS contamination. This includes potential lawsuits from residents, neighboring communities, and environmental organizations seeking compensation for health impacts and environmental damage.
We Need Your Help!
The health of our homes, our families, and our environment are at stake. Please support our cause by donating to our GoFundMe campaign. Your contribution will help us cover the costs of raising awareness, conducting independent environmental testing, and taking necessary legal actions to protect our community. Together, we can ensure a safe and healthy environment for ourselves and future generations
