Entire Life Savings Stolen Through Cyber Attack
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Ben Hurwitz and I'm writing this on behalf of my parents. My mom and dad, Nancy and Jerry Hurwitz, have been victims of a high-level online scam. Mom is 67 and dad is 75. Jerry worked 40+ hours a week for the last 52 years as a salesman at a car dealership, and my mom worked the last 35 years as a leasing manager for an apartment building. They both worked their way up and out of debt and saved as much money as they could their whole working lives to secure a modest retirement.
Two weeks ago they received a security alert on their computer telling them their computer had been hacked and they needed to contact Microsoft. The first person they spoke to told them their bank account had been compromised. This snowballed quickly to them being connected with an "FTC agent". This "federal agent" was an imposter and convinced them to transfer their life savings out of their bank account to "keep it safe" so that the "original hacker" could not get access to it. The "agent" also informed them that if they didn't do this they would be risking not only their account but the accounts of their family members. Because they feared our accounts would be hacked, they followed everything the scammers told them to do.
My parents are regular, upper-middle class people that worked for a combined 75+ years to provide for their family and responsibly save for their retirement. Unbelievably, in a matter of two weeks everything they worked for was taken from them. Now they have to figure out where they will get money from to live. My mom will try to get a job, but at 75 years old my dad will not be able to find a job because of physical limitations.
On top of all of this, they still have a mortgage and other debt that needs to be paid.
State and federal law enforcement are involved though they are making no promises. Please help Nan and Jerry get back on their feet with any donation you can offer. Thank you very much for your support.
