Eploration of a Deepwater Wrecksite
Donation protected
I learned about this site about 12 years ago and since that researched it and tried to get permission to dive it. This permission was now, finally granted.
The site is located in the Mediterranean near a former shipyard. The yard was bombed 1942 and completely destroyed. 3 ships, that were already afloat, survived the attack and, as the yard was no longer usable, were anchored at a deep water buoy, approx. 1 mile away. Worker then finished the vessels there. Material was transported to the ships with a large barge. During another attack, this barge capsized and lost all of its cargo – according to the papers I found 8,7 metric tons of brass including 3 bells, 6 steering helmets, 7 telegraphs, more then 250 portholes a.s.o.
The deepwater buoy sits in 80 meters ( 260 ft) of water. The seabed slopes down from there to approx. 160 Meters (525 ft). a the barge came from around a half peninsula and therefore from sea, the cargo will be either on that slope or on the floor below. The dive is a dual rebreather dive of 6-8 hrs in murky water (industrial area) with possible task as digging and salvaging items of the cargo.
More details also about the rewards can be found on my youtube channel where I document this adventure. https://www.youtube.com/@InnerSpace_Explorers
