Fighting HIV

“Baltimore Safe Haven’s HIV Testing Vehicle is the latest expansion of our outreach efforts. Through daytime community outreach tabling and nighttime mobile outreach, BSH has successfully served high-risk populations including youth, elders, communities of color, LGBTQ+, low-income, unstably housed, and substance users.
As the second addition to our fleet of outreach vehicles, the HIV Testing Vehicle will primarily serve as a safe, private space for us to conduct rapid HIV tests for community members. Bringing this resource into the community in addition to testing out of our Drop-In Center will help eliminate stigma about testing.
With community and partner input, BSH will identify locations to regularly hold testing sessions and offer other harm reduction and community support services including referral to on-site case management and partner services, narcan training and distribution, safer sex education and kit distribution, safer consumption education and kit distribution, and LGBTQ+ support.
The COVID-19 pandemic has been an opportunity for growth in our work at BSH. We realized without a functioning Drop-In Center that the “safe haven” we offer clients isn’t a building, it’s the environment we create when we deliver services. Our HIV Testing Vehicle will be another opportunity to do so.
Help us create the safety net our community deserves. Every dollar gets an LGBTQ+ youth one step closer to accessing affirming, comprehensive care. Please donate and share.”
