Help Isabella after breaking her neck vertebrae
Donation protected
Who this will help
Isabella was a lively 5 year old prior to an unfortunate playground accident where she suffered a broken neck bone and left sided paralyses.
She has regained some movement, and any funds raised will be used to purchase specialist equipment to help entertain and stimulate her as she adapts to life following the accident.
Why I'm fundraising
Funds raised will be used to buy sensory equipment to help entertain and stimulate Isabella.
It's not known if she'll walk again and further equipment and adaptations may be needed to enable her to be as independent as possible, and to help her join in with family life.
An adaptable buggy and hoist are equipment to be used in the future.
The impact of your support
Being able to stimulate Isabella's senses and move her about then she can still play an active part in family life, will help her adapt to her new limitations on movement and lack of use of her left side.
Isabella currently uses a sensory voyager in hospital which costs around £4,000 and contains lights, movement and a projector.
UPDATE
Isabella's recovery is slow and steady. Both myself and her mum have been off work since October on statutory sick pay and life is hard. BUT, we're where we need to be for Isabella.
She's working hard in physiotherapy and occupational therapy and will be starting hydrotherapy soon.
UPDATE 27th Feb 2024
We were hoping to be home towards the end of March, after 6 months in hospital, however the surgery hasn't worked and Isabella has had to have the halo fitted and put back in traction. The bone "fixed" during surgery has moved back towards her spinal cord. Traction will hopefully pull the bone back in place where it will either fuse, or more surgery will be required.
Isabella is currently lay at 15 degrees with 5lbs weight hanging off her head.
We're going to be in hospital for at least another 5 months, longer if traction doesn't work.
Financially, it's unsustainable to stay in hospital for another 5 months. We're at a loss now. We just want to be together as a family (mum, dad, Isabella and her 3 year old sister). We're still unsure what the future will look like, but we'll navigate it together ❤️
