ER and Surgery
Donation protected
Hi everyone, i’m fundraising for my persian cat named Joey. On Friday, April 5th, Joey needed medical attention for ongoing stomach pain. My family and I took him to our local veterinary clinic, where they performed an x-ray and ultrasound. The veterinarian stated he felt stiffness in Joey’s bladder and urged us to take him to the emergency room immediately.
Upon arriving and receiving further analysis, they stated that Joey had a urethral blockage, preventing him from urinating. The emergency vet said they were glad I brought him in at the time that I did. They stated if we had waited just a couple more hours, this issue would have resulted in Joey’s death. They then placed a Joey on a catheter and fluids, hoping once the catheter is removed that Joey will be able to use the litterbox on his own. After spending 4 days in the ER and a failed attempt to urinate on his own, Joey needed a life-saving surgery.
Joey completed perineal urethrostamy surgery on Tuesday, April 9th at 12 pm. This surgery is very invasive and required cutting and widening the tube connected to his bladder so that it minimizes the risk of further blockage. Unfortunately, Joey still hasn’t been able to use the bathroom. The days of staying overnight in the ER and the surgery itself has been very costly for my family and I. Having to return to the surgery center to understand the next steps on how we can help Joey is further adding to his medical bills.
Joey’s health is at risk and the longer his bladder isn’t functioning, the lower his chance of survival is. I strongly ask that you please help my family and I with providing Joey the life he deserves.
