I hope you will read the story below about my friend, Bobbie Jean (Coffman) Delgado ~ she's been a lifelong friend and was a bridesmaid in our wedding 55 years ago.
I am Bobbie Jean Delgado
I was born in Harrisonburg, Virginia 76 years ago and have lived in Richmond, Virginia since elementary school. I enjoyed my high school years greatly and I have loved reconnecting with alumni at the reunions. After graduation in 1962 I attended cosmetology school and enjoyed many years as a hairstylist. After taking a break from my career to raise my two children, I started working again in 1992. My children have made me very proud through the years, and I am blessed with four grandchildren who I love to see as often as possible.
I have loved sports all of my life. I have played basketball (in my 5'10" years, haha), tennis, racketball and most recently pickleball (try it, it's lots of fun). I love going to see my grandchildren enjoy their sports ~~ circus acrobatics, dancing, baseball, track, and volleyball. I have enjoyed taking them to the University of Richmond games (where their grandfather played football during his years at the University of Richmond). We have so much fun together. My youngest granddaughter lives in Illinois with my daughter. I normally try to see them at least once a year. We Zoom chat which helps with the distance. My son and his family live nearby. Thank goodness.
I am an artist (oil and watercolor) and have enjoyed being involved in the Bon Air Artist Association in Richmond, Virginia and making friends there. This past year I had the pleasure of chairing our annual fundraiser, an art show and reception which had 48 artists. I am planning on doing the next one in 2021. It was lots of fun and hard work and totally worth it for charity. I also love singing. Singing in my church choir is a joy I can't explain. It will be wonderful when we (after the pandemic) will be able to start singing together again.
Between having stage 3 breast cancer in 2017 and having limited income, saving money has been challenging. I live on my Social Security income and under normal circumstances it is sufficient. However, with the recent return of cancer in my right breast, cost of surgeries and having chemo again, my savings will be depleted. I have lived by myself and supported myself since 1992, sometimes working three jobs at the same time. My motto is: You do what you have to do in life.
I find it very uncomfortable to ask for help, but I need help now. In order to help pay for my medical expenses, and be able to feel some security, I am asking for donations from you, my community. You know me to be a fighter and now, I need your support to continue this battle.
Thank you so much for your support and prayers.
