Fundraiser for Cody West -Recovery & Rehab
Donation protected
Cody awoke on June 30, 2021 to celebrate his 34th birthday. It started like any other day. However, everything changed in an instant when he went to go to bed. At 11:00pm Cody went to remove several misc. items from the bed, including his 9mm Glock, and accidentally shot himself. Cody was quickly rushed to the nearest medical facility, Arlington Medical City Hospital. It took 6+ hours, multiple doctors, 50+ units of blood and countless nurses to control the damage and reconstruct the left subclavian artery. Cody spent the next 5 days fighting for his life, with multiple surgeries and even more ups and downs. On Monday, July 5th, Cody was transferred via Care Flite to a level I trauma hospital that was better suited to meet his extensive needs. Baylor University Medical Center, Dallas has an ECMO unit, which according to his doctors, was exactly the machine he needed, and it was the last hope of saving his life. As of today, August 10, 2021, Cody is still fighting, and recovering -albeit slowly. Cody is starting to communicate more and more each day by wiggling his feet, squeezing his hand, nodding his head and occasionally smiling or trying to mouth a few words (he can't talk because of the tracheotomy.) He just had his left hand amputated and he still has a few more surgeries in the near future and he will require lots of therapy and rehabilitation in the coming months. Cody is obviously out of work and Nicole has rarely left his side working a few hours here and there as she is able. Cody has received state of the art medical treatment, with a price tag to match. I'm asking that everyone who reads this, to first and foremost, say a prayer and stand in agreement with us for a full recovery. If, by chance, God lays it on your heart to pay it forward, then please consider giving to this beautiful family, and God Bless you! All money raised will go to provide for current living expenses and medical bills, which are bound to be outrageous. Cody's journey so far is nothing short of a miracle. I can't wait for the day that he can share his amazing story of recovery!
