Eric Barnhart's Hate Crime Recovery Fund

Hi everyone, Ben here. As you may know, Eric was attacked outside of our apartment on July 16th around 3 am. After fighting off the attacker, Eric knocked on our neighbor's doors until someone finally answered and called 911. He was taken to Our Lady of the Lake by ambulance and labeled as a violent crime victim. After an MRI and CT scan, it was determined that he has multiple crush fractures in his face and that he was going to need plates put in his jaw and nose. After a week, they installed two plates in his jaw and one in his nose and wired his jaw. After 3 days of recovering at home, his pain level was only increasing, so we came back in and he had 6 vials of fluid drained from his jaw and neck. Less than 24 hours later, we were back again because he was in more pain than before he had it drained. Turns out, he’s got an infection and needs surgery again. That’s where we are now. Eric will be out of work for several months and does not have insurance, so everything is being paid for out of pocket. I am working as much as I can, but I am also his full-time caretaker and have missed several days of work already. This whole process has been a nightmare, but we are trying to stay positive and take it day by day.
